Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) said Sunday that while he doesn’t believe the United States will default on its debt come October 17th, the looming deadline does give Republicans an opportunity to negotiate with the president on ObamaCare.
In an exclusive interview with Candy Crowley on State of the Union, Cruz said that, historically, raising the debt ceiling has been used as leverage in dealings with presidents, a tactic he believes his party will – and should – use again.
“We should look for three things,” he said. “Number one, we should look for some significant structural plan and reduce government spending. Number two, we should avoid new taxes. And number, we should look for ways to mitigate the harms from Obamacare.”
