There is no shortage of stories dominating the news this week, but what will be leading the headlines on Sunday morning? These are some of the stories we are looking at this week.
The Race Rages On. Mitt Romney averted disaster by winning a Tuesday two-fer, picking up wins in Arizona and his home state of Michigan. But he just narrowly eked out a 16-14 delegate victory over Rick Santorum in Michigan, who raised $9 million in February and is making a strong push to Super Tuesday. Some say it’s a two man race, but Newt Gingrich is fighting on. He’ll join us to discuss the way forward.
Mitch McConnell’s tough week. When a moderate Republican senator from a moderate Democratic state announces she’s retiring, GOP leaders may start to worry. When the GOP is a mere four seats from capturing a majority, GOP leaders may inch toward the panic button. What are the GOP’s prospects for 2012 now that Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe has announced her retirement?
Jewish activists unite. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, convenes Sunday in Washington and President Obama will speak to the pro-Israel activists. What’s changed in the year since Obama last addressed the group?
The Battle Rages On. Syrian military forces used helicopter gunships to fire upon civilians in the besieged neighborhood of Baba Amr in Homs on Wednesday, but on Thursday said the International Committee of the Red Cross could enter the city on Friday to evacuate the wounded and bring in food. The mission will take days, the ICRC says, and there’s no indication that fighting will cease after the injured are rescued.
Movin’ on up. We reported last week on the average price of gasoline per gallon. It typically rises every year heading into the summer months, but this year prices began their ascent much, much earlier – in January. Prices have risen even further this week, up to a nationwide average of $3.73 per gallon – up from $3.63 per gallon last week.
Much more to come, make sure to check back on Friday for our full Rundown and don’t forget to tune in Sunday at 9am & Noon ET.
